Today, we’re going to be making a very simple rolled satin flower. Here is what the finished product looks like.
I love to make these for headbands, necklaces, scrapbook pages, or even cards! I am by no means an authority on this subject and the end product will not be a perfect flower, each one will be a little bit different. You can experiment with different types of ribbon: I like to use satin ribbon or organza ribbon.
Supplies: What you’ll need to make this flower: felt, your choice of ribbon, a hot glue gun, and scissors (the Prima flower centers are optional, I didn’t end up using them for mine) 1. Cut a circle from your felt about the size that you would want your flower. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a perfect circle. 2. Take the end of your ribbon piece and fold it so that it makes a triangular point. (Somebody needs a manicure…despeartely:) but I digress. 3. Put a dab of hot glue in the center of your felt circle and adhere the pointed end of your ribbon. 4. Begin twisting your ribbon as you go and make a circle around the center. You can add dabs of hot glue here and there to adhere the ribbon, but you don’t need to glue every single inch of ribbon. Continue twisting the ribbon as you make a circle. Whether you twist the ribbon tightly or loosely will change the look of your finished flower. 5. When you have finished covering your felt circle, tuck the end of your ribbon under a portion of the flower that is not glued down. If it just so happens that the area near where your ribbon ends is glued down solid (which with my luck usually happens!, you can just glue the end of the ribbon to the felt under the flower and place a dab of hot glue to hold it in place. And our finished product! Now you can add your flower to a headband, bib necklace, scrapbook page or handmade card. The possibilites are endless. If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve the tutorial, let me know in the comments. Happy Crafting!
